Encore Area Manager, Power Distribution | Toronto in Mississauga, Ontario

Position Overview

The Area Manager, Power Distribution, will be handle the execution of electrical requirements for their assigned venues including requirements for outside production companies operating at Encore locations with exclusive power distribution agreements. This position will be responsible for planning the execution, scheduling and supervising power distribution technicians. The Area Manager is the subject matter expert on Encore power distribution standard operating procedures. Responsible for maintaining and fostering a safe environment in each of our Power Distribution locations ensuring each is in compliance with all applications legislation, regulations and Encore safety standards. This position is required to work closely with regional and venue leaders to support both sales and operations. This position reports to the Regional Vice President, Venues or the Regional Director, Venues and will partner with the global Power Distribution team.

Key Job Responsibilities

Staff Development

  • Identify development needs and provide/support training for team. Assist with career and performance goal setting and tracking.

  • Recruit, hire and manage full time dedicated power distribution staff at assigned locations. Partner with venue leaders to manage cross trained staff.

  • Performance manage, lead, motivate and progressive discipline (at time) staff.

  • Assign projects based on factors including existing relationships, area of expertise and personality.

  • Partner with venue and regional leadership to ensure all on-site personnel who provide power distribution services have received proper training and acquired necessary skills to safely execute power distribution according to the ENCORE wall out standard.

  • Support all local, regional, and national training efforts related to power distribution.

Safety Compliance

  • Complete field assessments regarding power safety compliance within assigned region.

  • Assist with periodic site inspections of new and existing facilities and evaluation of safety of existing power distribution infrastructure. Work with venue and Regional leaders to recommend necessary improvements or modifications to existing power infrastructure.

  • Assume responsibility as Designated Master Electrician for Encore ECRA License. Submit and manage permits where applicable for electrical work in Ontario.

  • Labour and Equipment Management

  • Partner with venue and regional leadership to publish and maintain work schedules. Maintain a positive employee relations environment.

  • Create and execute power distribution load-in/load-out plans for trade shows and production events. Support planning of power distribution for small and mid-sized core AV meetings managed by venue leaders, where complexity is within on-site team’s skill level.

  • Supervise and complete set and strike of required power distribution for general sessions, breakouts computer labs, meal functions, entertainment events, exhibitors, decorators, and production companies including building custom cables and assisting in the fabrication of electrical components if needed.

  • Troubleshoot when problems arise.

  • Partner with venue and regional leaders to manage power distribution inventory and be responsible for power equipment sub rental and subcontract labour management and reduction.

  • Read, assist in creation and execution of exhibitor order forms, electrical and exhibitor booth diagrams/blueprints and determine labor and material needs for future shows.

Customer Relations

  • Demonstrate strong customer services skills as part of maintaining positive relationships with all internal and external clients.

  • Develop strategies for influencing potential internal and external clients.

  • Provide support, either personally or through delegation, in the preparation of quotes as requested.

  • Interpret requirements for both equipment and labor. Assist sales team in the specification of show labor requirements to ensure that required margins are met.

  • Effectively direct Encore employees and manage outside electricians and when required to do so.

  • Cross train Encore co-workers and if needed assist with normal day-to-day audio visual set-ups/strikes.

Company Support

  • Assist RVP, Specialty Services with site inspections of new and existing facilities as well as the evaluation, design, maintenance and install of Power Distribution infrastructure.

  • Assist venue and regional leaders in the creation and sale of Encore produced shows that ensure standardopera ting procedure compliance and timeline efficiency.

  • Provide on-site support as needed to ensure strategic projects are delivered on-time and local expectations are carefully managed.

Job Qualifications

  • 5-7 years electrical experience

  • Master Electrician license

  • Education Level: Certificate

  • Electrical Knowledge: Working knowledge of 110v-600v, single and three phase equipment, different connectors, power phases, amperages, and voltages. Know the differences and/or European conversion to American power. Knowledge of Power Generators and Transformers, as well as of meters and tools of the trade.

  • Lift certification

  • Lift operation experience

  • Broad familiarity with the trade show and production industries

  • Customer service experience is required with both internal and external customers

  • The candidate will also have at least 1 year serving in an instructional role

  • Able to create and implement training programs safety procedures

  • Implement ongoing maintenance and continuous education programs

  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills

  • Familiar with Microsoft Office CADD programs such as Vector works or AutoCAD.

  • Ability to work long days, have flexible shifts and need to be available 24/7
